MassMu to Host Annual Celebration in Art

Each year, the Massillon Museum exhibits artwork by area school children. The gallery bursts with color, imagination, and many more works of art than it usually displays. Art teachers in all schools within and surrounding Massillon have been invited to submit artwork by their students from kindergarten through high school.

The 2018 Celebration in Art show will open on Sunday, February 18, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a reception for young artists from public and parochial schools throughout Western Stark County. Refreshments will be served in the lobby. The party is free and open to everyone; reservations are not necessary.  The exhibition is supported by Fresh Thyme.

The show will include about 250 examples of two- and three-dimensional student creations. Art teachers from 20 schools have submitted artwork: Amherst Elementary, Edison Middle School, Genoa Elementary, Jackson High School, Jackson Memorial Middle School, Lake Cable Elementary, Lohr Elementary, Northwest Primary, Pfeiffer Intermediate School, Sauder Elementary, St. Mary’s School (Massillon), Strausser Elementary, TC Knapp Elementary, Tuslaw Middle School,  Tuslaw Elementary School, Tuslaw High School, Washington High School, Watson Elementary School, and Whipple Heights Elementary.

Visitors will enjoy opening the door to Oscar the Skeleton’s cabinet, which resides in the lobby during the Museum’s construction project.

The Celebration in Art exhibition will remain on display through March 18. It may be seen during regular Museum hours—Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.

The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark.
