Director’s Choice Opens Canton Ballet Season This Weekend

It’s not too late to subscribe and save!  Director’s Choice will open Canton Ballet’s new season on Friday and Saturday, October 14 and 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Canton Palace Theatre.

Canton Ballet offers special ticket pricing for Director’s Choice, which has become an annual presentation.  Admission is $10 with all seats reserved.  Season subscriptions are still available offering a discount and choice of best seats. Tickets may be purchased at or 330-455-7220.

Director’s Choice, a mixed program of classical ballet contemporary ballet and modern dance, will offer creative and challenging new works by resident and guest choreographers as well as familiar favorites from repertoire.

Two works will highlight the production—The Time Is Not Right, a world premiere contemporary ballet by Canton Ballet choreographer in residence Angelo Lemmo, and Don Quixote Suite, a ballet classic staged by world renowned teacher and coach Laura Alonso after Marius Petipa.

Alonso, of Havana and daughter of world famous prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso and renowned teacher and coach Fernando Alonso, is herself known as a teacher for Mme. Alicia Alonso.  Former Dance theatre of Harlem ballerina Virginia Johnson, now artistic director of Dance Theatre of Harlem, calls her “international master teacher extraordinaire.”  Today she travels the world teaching and staging the classics.

Also on the program are Elevated, a contemporary ballet by Heather Gray, co-director of Utah Regional Ballet II; Warison, a modern work by Lemmo and Dances of Springtime, a classical ballet and world premiere by artistic and executive director Cassandra Crowley.

The beautifully restored historic Palace Theatre is located at 605 Market Avenue North in the Downtown Canton Arts District.  There is a wheelchair seating area on the main floor.  The theatre box office opens one hour before performance times for walk-ups and will-call sales.
